The Spirituality
of the Body

This workshop brings together two distinct — and at times contrasting — understandings of 5Rhythms as a spiritual practice.
Rather than presenting a unified method, the work holds a living paradox at the heart of human experience: we experience ourselves as separate, bounded individuals, and yet we belong to something fundamentally unified. Both perspectives are explored not conceptually, but through direct bodily experience.

The body is not bypassed or reduced to
biology. It is the place where life is met directly. When the body
is listened to and allowed to move, it does not demand constant
attention. It becomes trustworthy ground. From that place, attention
can widen. Instead of monitoring oneself, there is participation.
Instead of tightening around identity, there is contact. The
question is no longer - Who do I believe myself to be?, but - What
is moving through me?
At times the work will be precise, sensory, and grounded in somatic awareness. At other times it will open into spacious, archetypal, and devotional movement. The tension between these modes is not something to resolve, but something to stay with — and to dance.
Indigenous traditions speak of humans as “double beings.” One aspect of us lives in separation, threat, and competition. Another knows itself as part of a larger unity, held in harmony and shared belonging. This workshop does not ask participants to choose between these views, but to experience how both arise — and dissolve — through movement.
The central inquiry is simple and uncompromising:
Is the body the place where identity takes shape?
Or the place where the sense of separation relaxes, revealing what has always been one?
This is a practice space — rigorous, embodied, and experiential — for those willing to remain present in paradox, difference, and not-knowing. Not as a search for answers, but as an exploration of what becomes visible when movement is allowed to move us.
An invitation to inhabit the body, to let movement unfold, and to allow spirituality to emerge.
ABOUT ERIK IVERSEN
He was in his first training with Gabrielle Roth in 1981 and became one of her first workshop producers out of Montreal in the 1980’s. Over the next 40 years, he taught the 5Rhythms as well as maintaining a one-on-one bodywork practice; over time he integrated the wisdom he gained from hands-on work with the insight from guiding thousands of dancers on the dancefloor.
In 2016 he graduated from the 2-year Leadership and Transformation training at the Hendricks Institute, and is now a certified coach. In 2017, Erik co-founded Kite Parade Co (www.kiteparade.co) and in 2020, he designed the Somatomy series, a 3-part training that guides participants through an in-depth, experiential understanding of their anatomy and offers powerful tools for creating deep presence and flow through movement and conscious embodiment.
